Iowa Ballot Measures

Iowa Require Citizenship to Vote in Elections and Allow 17-Year-Olds to Vote in Primaries Amendment. This amendment would prohibit local governments from allowing non-citizens to vote in Iowa elections. While this is not expressly allowed in the current constitution, this amendment would change it from every citizen to only citizen. This amendment would also that citizens 17 years of age would be able to vote in primary elections provided they will be 18 on election day.

Iowa Gubernatorial Succession Amendment. This amendment would provide a clearer path in the case of the Iowa governor being unable to finish their term. Explicitly allowing the newly installed governor the power to appoint a new lieutenant governor.

Iowa No State Constitutional Right to Abortion Amendment. In 2019 the Iowa Supreme Court found a constitutional right to abortion in the Iowa constitution. This was reversed in 2022, with the US Supreme Court reversing Roe v. Wade a week later. A lower court blocked the 2018 law from taking affect, with the state court upholding that decision for procedural reasons at a 3-3 vote, 1 abstention.
